Time’s running out to grab some of Parallel 49‘s spring seasonal, the first B.C. saison in what will be a year of many B.C. saisons (Russell and Granville Island are the latest to release some of this Belgian farmhouse-style ale).
Hay Fever is a cloudy pale gold colour and very effervescent, as befits the style. The head clears to a rim at the top of the beer, but the carbonation remains vibrant.
Big fruity orangey-lemon citrus aromas mingle with hay and a chalkiness, above a full, earthy, spicy, yeasty depth.
Hay Fever is bright and breezy in the mouth. The tingly carbonation introduces flavours of oranges, apples, grassy hay and clove before these are rounded up and carried off in a flinty-dry mineral finish.
Pass the cheese plate along with one of these, please. I’m thinking a good creamy brie for starters.
